1. The first step on how to format a hard disk is to save all the important files you have on that drive. You can save files on a disc. Formatting a hard drive also means installing all the programs you have in the Computer again.

2. The second step on how to format a hard drive is right clicking on the "my Computer" icon on the desktop or on the start Menu. Choose the manage tab and then you will seeanother window called "Computer manageMent". Choose the storage tab and click on it. Choose the "disk manageMent" you can see on the right part and click it twice.

3. The third step on how to format a hard drive is the main framing the right part of the computer screen so you get a good view of the hard drives. All the boxes are placed on each line. The lines have colored bars at the upper part. It also displays the size of the drive in MEGABYTES (MB), this is the drive's partition. A partition is the thing that separates the drive's capacity. If you are not doing many tasks, it is best to only have a single partition.

4. The fourth step on how to format a hard disk is deleting the partitions that existed before. You can executethis step by clicking the box with the partition twice. Select the tab for the "Delete Partition" because you know that all the files in that drive will be deleted. You should have previously save all the important files in a CD. Then you should also click yes to every pop up warning message you see afterwards.

5. The fifth step on how to format a hard drive is finding the bar that is colored black placed above. The bar should also say "unallocated" below the size. Click on it and choose the new partition option. Then the set up for it will be installed next.

6. The sixth step on how to format a hard drive is clicking the first partition on the partition wizard. Then the next move is changing the sizes. You should make the same size asthe one you inputted on the maximum space. The next thing that will happen is that the computer picking the new letter for the drive. You can also rename the letter by going to the menu and clicking on the next button.

7. The second to the last step on formatting a hard drive is choosing the set up NTFS to format the latest partition. The NTFS is also safer against viruses. Do not type anything on the space allocation and just leave it as it is. The last thing to do is entering a name for the volume label.
